Safe or Harmful - Gluten Safety Game
Taking over this project mid-stream, I spent a lot of time streamlining triggers and variables, adding a score tracker, and ensuring that the course flow map worked effectively. This course put users into a grocery store, and challenges them to identify potential allergens in common products, and to determine whether or not the products are gluten free and labeled appropriately. Students earn points which unlock badges for correct responses.
Functional Status Scale
The objective for this short video was to provide a high level explanation of the Functional Status Scale for medical students and personnel not yet familiar with the tool. As the instructional designer, I worked with the SME (creator of the tool), and used his academic writings and teaching PPT to script a video storyboard, which was then turned in to an engaging eight-minute white board video using Vyond.
Social Determinants of Health
This three module series was designed to help pediatric medical residents better understand the social determinants of health. Integrating video vignettes throughout, students follow the case of Ms. Washington and her son James to learn about contributing factors, and resources available to assist. As the primary instructional designer, I worked closely with the doctors and medical SMEs to design, script, and develop these modules, and with a graphic designer for the look/feel and video components.
Disclosing Medical Errors
Students are immersed into part one of this three part series with a very powerful video vignette by a mother whose worst nightmare was realized. From there, students progress through two more modules providing guidance on effective and appropriate disclosure of medical errors. The third module provides a captioned video scenario demonstrating an effective process. I was the primary developer for this series, and worked cohesively with the team to bring them to life.
Differential Diagnosis
My contribution to this three part series was creating advanced Storyline variables and triggers. The client wanted the ranking activity to be drag and drop, shown on subsequent screens, and have the results transmitted to the LMS for further analytics (which is not a native feature for drag and drop interactions).
Bear Scalpel
Medical professionals very rarely have the opportunity to solely focus on just one case at a time. This module simulated a medical professional working (and jumping!) between three different case studies, and keeping them all straight. Once more jumping into a project mid-stream, my task here was to clarify layers, triggers, and variables, and ensure that the course sequence mapped properly. This involved simplifying controls and removing extraneous features.
Biomedical Influences of Poverty
This two part series again follows the case study of Ms. Washington and her children, but this time focused on the biomedical influences of poverty. Video vignettes and engaging imagery keep these modules interactive, while residents are encouraged to journal responses to questions and cases presented.
Biostatistics
Working from PowerPoint outlines, my role with this project was to storyboard nine topics which would then be developed into engaging whiteboard animation videos using Vyond. I was also responsible for close captioning the final approved videos.
